Shipibo, Meet the Artisans

The Shipibo peoples are a group of Indigenous people who live along the Ucalayi River in the Amazon Rainforest in Peru. With an estimated population of around 20,000 people the Shipibo people are slowly being forced into more urban areas such as Pucallpa and Yarinacocha to gain access to higher quality education and health services and also to look for alternative ways to generate incomes.

The shipibo people, as with many indigenous communities are faced with outside pressures including oil speculation, logging, narco trafficking and conservation issues.

TMAC is heading to Peru in October 2018 to establish connections with the Shipibo people and bring new collections to the boutique, so that you can help to support their endeavours in retaining their heritage and fighting for land rights and conservation issues.
